 Remedies for Tired eyes

Tired eyes can be treated by following some simple steps at your home only. Generally, a tired eye doesn’t require any medical appointment but we still recommend you to consult an eye expert and discuss the possible causes of tired eyes in your case.

Following are some treatments and home remedies to cure tired eyes:-

1) Applying Warm and cool packs

Warm and cool packs can be very useful in getting rid of tired eyes.  Simply place a warm pack on your eyes to relax the eye muscles and then put a cold pack that will increase the blood flow. It will help in reducing the puffiness and swelling to make your eyes look awake and normal.

This home remedy is just a quick fix and not a permanent solution. If you are experiencing tired eyes often then make sure to address the issue with an eye expert that can help you to find a permanent solution.

2) Hydration

A dehydrated body is a common reason for tired eyes. It can be due to several reasons such as over screening, certain medications, age-related factors, etc. that make it difficult for the eyes to remain moist.

If your eyes are getting dry because of the over screen of digital devices then you can simply follow the 20-20-20 rule. According to this rule, if you spent 20 minutes using a screen then you should try to look at some object or any point that is 20 feet apart for a total of 20 seconds.

Take small breaks and blink your eyes frequently. If blinking eyes doesn’t work for you then place a cloth soaked in cold water on your eyes. You can also use artificial tears but before using them, you should consult an eye specialist.

Inflamed and flaky eyelids can also lead to dry eyes as they may block the oil-making glands at the edge of eyelids. You can simply use a wet cloth soaked in lukewarm water and gently place it over your eyes closed for a minimum of one minute. Squeeze out the clogged oils by gently pressing the edge of the eyelids so that the glands can secrete the lubrications properly and keep the eyes hydrated. Repeat the process for a few days and observe the change.

3) Fish oil

Omega 3 fatty acids can help the eye glands in proper functioning. You should add Fish oil or any other source of omega 3 fatty acids in your daily diet if you want to treat tired eyes. It can help in the overall improvement and functioning of your eyes.

Foodstuffs like walnuts, flaxseed oils, and vegetable oils, etc are rich in omega 3 fatty acids. That apart, you can also take omega 3 fatty acids in supplement form but consult a physician for the right amount of dose.

4) Use an Air filter or Humidifier

Dust allergies are one of the biggest reasons for tired eyes. Poor ventilation and contaminated air that revolves inside the room cause allergies, in that case, we should use an air filter or a humidifier. Clean and moist air can help in retaining the moisture in your eyes.

5) Proper Sleep

Due to a tight work schedule, you might be taking less sleep. We need to take proper sleep to maintain our body cycle. Proper sleep not only helps in the proper functioning of our body but also releases the tension of our eye muscles.

You should take at least 7-8 hours of sleep for the proper functioning of your body and eyes.

Prevention:

As we know, prevention is better than cure. By following these steps you can avoid tired or puffy eyes:-

1) Use Wraparound glasses

If you are prone to tire or have puffy eyes then you should start wearing wraparound glasses. These glasses will protect you from drying winds and pollution.

2) Avoid blowing direct air towards the eyes

You might be using a hairdryer, fan, or air conditioner towards your eyes. You should immediately stop doing this. Direct air towards the eyes can easily evaporate the moisture or tears from the eyes.

3) Contact lenses

If you are a regular user of contact lenses then make sure to remove them when you aren’t doing any work. Wearing them for a longer period can lead to irritation and dry eyes.
